About Us

The River Adur Conservation Society (RACS) has just been set up by a group of determined enthusiasts who want to protect and improve one of the best rivers in Sussex, and they want like-minded people to join them.

River Adur at ShermanburyAlthough newly formed, the Society has a constitution, insurance, is affiliated to the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) and has completed 2 (relatively small) projects and is actively working with the water company and the EA to improve water quality of a local stream. There are lots more tasks that will make a real difference to the Adur and its tributary streams.

Local angling societies and the Sussex Ouse Conservation Society as well as the Environment Agency have assisted us with advice and in some cases funding.  The Sussex Wildlife Trust have kindly provided accommodation for meetings.  If successful in its aims, RACS will lead to a better environment for our fishery, regular monitoring to stop potential problems becoming problems, and a strong voice for the whole river.
