About Us

The River Adur Conservation Society (RACS) was formed in July 2007 by a group of determined enthusiasts with the aim of protecting and improving the River Adur and its tributaries. The aims of the Society are set out in the ‘What We Do’ section of the website. .

River Adur at ShermanburySince its formation, the Society has set up a constitution, arranged insurance, become affiliated to the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) and completed several projects. There are lots more tasks that will make a real difference to the Adur and its tributary streams. The Society has recently become a member of the Association of Rivers Trusts which promotes and co-ordinates similar bodies in the UK.

The Henfield,Pulborough and Hassocks fishing clubs, the Environment Agency and the Sussex Wildlife Trust support the aims of the Society and help has been given from the well-established and successful Sussex Ouse Conservation Society (SOCS). If successful in its aims, the work of RACS will lead to a better environment, regular monitoring will stop potential problems becoming problems, and the Society will have a strong voice for the whole river.

New members are welcome.
